‘A life barely half lived’: domestic abuse and sexual violence practitioners’ experiences and perceptions of providing care to survivors of non-physical abuse within intimate partner relationships

Non-physically abusive acts (underpinned by coercive control) are more prevalent than physical or sexual violence within intimate partner relationships. Yet, little is known about survivors’ help-seeking journeys the efficacy of existing services in addressing this need. We present findings from a survey UK-based domestic and abuse (DVA) (SV) practitioners (n = 279) exploring experiences providing care to women with histories non-physical abuse. Our suggest that survivors often seek help for specialist DVA SV services, but wider professional agencies overlook severity experience absence violence. The impacts on health wellbeing severe there multiple barriers support, particularly criminal justice system. highlight urgent need increase public awareness its consequences training (for example, police, child protection, legal services) sustainable funding increases long-term support options their children.
